Nathaniel York, PhD – Instructor
Current position: Instructor, Washington University in St. Louis
Previous positions: Postdoctoral Scholar – Washington University in St. Louis, Graduate Research assistant UW–Madison
Current position description: I am a non-tenure track faculty member at Washington University in St. Louis. After receiving my PhD I moved to Dr. Colin Nichols lab at Wash U, working on understanding the physiological effect of KATP channel disfunction. I have continued in that position, receiving some independent funding resulting in my promotion to Instructor. I am still working under the mentorship of Dr. Nichols as I try to establish myself as an independent researcher focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying diabetes progression.
Advice for current trainees: Your research is important but it is only a piece of the puzzle when it comes to pursuing a future career. Establishing relationships through collaboration, conferences, presentations etc. goes a long way when you are looking for jobs and can open doors to funding that you may not have access to or know about otherwise.
