Tricia Windgassen, PhD – Speaker Bio
Current position: Senior Scientist, Amgen
Previous positions: Scientist I-II, Codexis Biotechnology; Post-doc, Stanford University
Current position description: From my training at UW, I’ve stayed in protein biochemisty and research, but transitioned to the West Coast (post-doc) and industry (last 6 years). I’m currently working in early drug discovery for a Pharma company (Amgen) within their induced proximity group, targeting previously “undrug-able” proteins through new technology. Previously, I worked for a smaller biotech company, engineering proteins at high-throughput for use as biotherapeutics.
Advice for trainees: Be open to opportunities – Talk to people outside your bubble and learn about what those opportunities could be. You don’t always have to have a certain career path in mind from the start – just the next opportunity that you find exciting. Although biotech hubs (San Francisco, Boston, etc) certainly help make those opportunities easier to find!
