As a graduate student developing methods for quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics, I knew I wanted to have a clinically oriented career. I stumbled upon the field of laboratory medicine and decided to pursue a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in clinical chemistry. As a board-certified clinical chemist, I direct a clinical laboratory at an academic medical center. In this role, I am responsible for ensuring that my laboratory provides accurate and timely test results for patient care. In addition, I teach medical students, residents, and fellows and participate in research projects.
