Current position or career path:
Dr. Edna Chiang graduated in 2022 with her PhD from the Microbiology Doctoral Training Program, after which she moved to Denver and spent half a year job hunting with the intent of pursuing a career in science communication and policy. However, she found more promising opportunities in data science and joined the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as a COVID-19 Data Analyst. In 2023, Edna became a Presidential Management Fellow and Data Scientist at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Inspector General where she does absolutely nothing biology-related: she helps identify instances of fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer dollars. She is currently completing a six-month rotation in the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Health Security where she will help enhance preparedness and response efforts for events that threaten the health, food, and agriculture sectors. Edna intends to spend most (if not all) of her career working in the federal government.
